Study tips
It is important to form good study habits early on, in order to study
effectively down the track. First you need to take responsibility for your
own study, making it your priority rather than something you just do for
your teachers or parents. Independent learning is about setting your own
goals and being motivated to learn for your own sake. Find what method of
study suits you best- do you learn visually, aurally, through group work,
via tactile means? Discover when you are most alert and attentive, whether
it be morning, afternoon or night, and study then. Study actively, rather
than passively. Participate in class discussions rather than just listening;
summarise readings and lessons with diagrams and bullet points, rather than
just re-reading them.
Another important technique is to have a study schedule to avoid
procrastination or wasted time through indecision. You should also develop
critical thinking skills- ask yourself and others questions about the
material, approach it from different perspectives, read what others have to
say on the topic, try to connect it with things you already know. One study
method is called the SQ3R method- Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review.
Take notes, highlight, underline, summarise and review. Regular revision
will always produce better results than last minute study.

periods of time. Not only will an uncomfortable chair or a desk at the wrong
height be irritating, but can also cause serious health problems. Equip your
study space with the things you need readily at hand, including wall
calendars, diary, textbooks, stationery, exercise books, pencil case,
stapler, hole punch, and a computer. Make sure your study notes are
carefully stored so you can easily find them, such as in a filing cabinet or
storage cabinet.
