Study plans and help guides
Study
plans are schedules created to help a student learn effectively, especially
in the face of upcoming examinations. They can take different forms and span
different time lengths, but usually they are a weekly plan. This plan
includes all your regular activities during the week- classes, sleep, meals,
travel time, work shifts, family commitments, exercise, extra-curricular
activities (sports, music tuition), social activities and so on. It should
also take into account time for relaxation, assignments and homework.
Hopefully it would be a realistic schedule with some flexibility for the
unexpected. Within this framework, you should try to schedule in time
everyday to make study notes and revise study material. It is better to
organise short study periods, including breaks, rather than long blocks of
study. Regular, effective study in small doses is much better than large
blocks of time less often.
Study and help guides can refer to books about how to study, but also may
refer to study guides for specific subjects. These are available for all
subject areas and levels of learning, from primary to tertiary. For example,
a senior high school literary study guide for a particular book may include
topics such as plot, character development, language, and context. There are
also many study guides online.
Study tips and strategies
It is important to form good study habits early on, in order to study
effectively down the track. Set aside a place for studying that is
comfortable, ergonomic, and free from distractions. Give yourself goals to
work towards, and set yourself rewards for accomplishing those goals. Take
responsibility for your own learning, find something to motivate you to
learn. Write up a study plan and place it somewhere where you will see it.
If you think you won't be able to stick to it, create one that you will be
able to accomplish, or maybe find someone you can be accountable to. Find a
partner to study with to motivate each other, and help each other study.
Have a weekly or fortnightly study group so you can go over difficult
questions together, or to create study materials. Discover what kind what
method of study suits you best (visually, aurally, through group work,
via tactile means), and use this method when studying. Participate in class discussions rather than just listening; summarise readings and lessons with diagrams and bullet points, rather than
just re-reading them.

Effective Study Skills
http://www.adprima.com/ A list of relevant and successful techiniques for studying at the high school and college level.
This web page on study skills is designed to help you improve your learning and understanding, and ultimately your grades. It is not so large that it would require you to engage in mind-numbing reading of chapter after chapter as is the case with many books on the subject. The information is written in a way to help you "see" and "practice" proven study techniques. This page is used in hundreds of schools and universities and is ranked in the top 5 sites by Google for "how to study."
No two people study the same way, and there is little doubt that what works for one person may not work for another. However, there are some general techniques that seem to produce good results. No one would argue that every subject that you have to take is going to be so interesting that studying it is not work but pleasure. We can only wish.

Or maybe you find that you can learn fine by reading something for yourself but listening to a lecture simply bores you to tears and afterwards you can't remember anything?
We all have different learning styles and by knowing your learning preferences you can make the most of opportunities. There are a number of different ways of thinking about learning styles and a lot of research is still being done - here are a few theories about alternative ways of learning. Alibris UK
http://www.alibris.co.uk/ Rising tuition and textbook prices are wreaking havoc on families trying to pay for college, private school, or homeschooling. Used textbooks can save you a significant amount of money. The Alibris network of independent sellers offers you a wide variety of books with detailed information as to the condition so you can easily determine which price is best for you. Buying used books is good for the environment and helps support the independent booksellers who are an important part of the used-book supply chain.
According to the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (US PIRG), students pay about $900 per year for college textbooks (about 20% of tuition at an average university), and these high prices apply to K–12 textbooks as well. Government studies attribute rapid price increases to a market driven by supply rather than demand: Professors select textbooks from publishers, bookstores order them, and students must pay. Students can't control or influence the price, format, or quality of the product, and are subject to whatever price is set by the textbook publishing companies.
