The test of TOEFL is an English language test designed for non English native speakers. The test of TOEFL is for entering the university, collage, or institute to get your degree or diploma for your higher education. You can also asses your English skills by taking the test. All second year students take the TOEFL ITP before they begin the Study Abroad campus selection. They will again take theTOEFL ITP in April following their return from Study Abroad. The charge for this TOEFL will be included in the term's tuition billing.

Students wishing to improve their TOEFL score may take additional TOEFL tests. MIC is an official ETS Test Center for the October and April international TOEFL tests. Enrollment booklets are available in the Study Abroad Center. Students pay for these optional tests.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language rates the applicant's proficiency in the English language. The TOEFL is only one formal criteria. There are two versions of the test: The TOEFL Internet-based test assesses reading, listening, speaking and writing skills and lasts about 4 hours; The TOEFL Paper-based test assesses listening, structure (grammar), reading and writing and takes about 3.5 hours.

The Internet-based test is far more common than the Paper-based test as the Paper-based test is only offered where facilities for the Internet-based test are not available.

The TOEFL, or Test of English as a Foreign Language, is an exam administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The TOEFL is taken by people for whom English is not their first language. Registration can also be completed by sending in the online registration form that can be found online at ETS’s website. The mailing address is indicated on the form. The form, even if one is registering online or by phone, can be useful because it indicates the information that is needed for registration. Contact information, score recipients, and payment of fees are all required at registration. In addition, indicating the identification that will be used at the testing center, knowing the test location and test date desired are also needed when registering for the TOEFL. Early registration for the exam closes seven days before the test date, and late registration closes three days before the test date. There are fees associated with taking the TOEFL test, and there is an additional fee for registering during late registration. Fees depend on the format of test being taken, PBT or iBT, and are outlined online at ETS’s website.

The Right Fit for Your English Language Program The Institutional Testing Program (ITP) gives schools, colleges and universities, English language institutes, and other agencies throughout the world the opportunity to administer the TOEFL ITP test locally to their own students. The program uses retired versions of the paper-based TOEFL test. Approximately 1,500 institutions administer more than 300,000 tests annually under the Institutional Testing Program.
In addition to the TOEFL ITP test, which is appropriate for use with students at the intermediate and higher levels of English language proficiency, ITP offers the Preliminary Test of English as a Foreign Language (Pre-TOEFL). It is especially appropriate for students at beginning levels of English study. Pre-TOEFL scores are on the same scale as TOEFL scores (up to a maximum score of 500), but the test provides more discriminating measurements at the lower end of the TOEFL scale.

Some Australian and New Zealand institutions will also consider the TOEFL score as equivalent to the IELTS score. The test is organised by the ETS (Education as Testing Service) and is usually in a multiple choice test format. As a guideline, a minimum score of 550 will be required for students who would like to gain a place to study in the U.S. universities.
